The Manual for Teachers

Book 3 of A Course in Miracles, the Manual for Teachers, is a guide for teaching the concepts contained in the Text and Workbook. It offers answers to some of the more likely questions that a student would ask, and clarifies some of the more difficult concepts that are introduced in the Course.

It also explains how to teach the curriculum the Course presents, and emphasizes the importance of practice. The goal of teaching is to help students release their ego thought system and limiting beliefs, and learn to trust in the love of God. This can be done either through the teachings themselves, or through the experience of the forgiveness exemplified by the Course's practices.

The Manual for Teachers is a significant shift in emphasis from the first two books, which are more theoretical in nature. The Course teaches that the true goal of learning is not so much understanding as it is changing one's thinking and habits. This is especially important for Westerners, who may benefit from a spiritual path that incorporates not only devotion, but also psychological understanding and change. un cours en miracles

Moreover, the manual teaches that the teacher of God is not merely an individual who has made a choice to teach. He is, in fact, an extension of God's call to witness that the Course is a truth, and therefore worthy of being taught. "If a teacher has responded to God's call to teach, he is teaching and healing simultaneously" (Manual, p. 1).

The Song of Prayer

The Song of Prayer is the second supplement to A Course in Miracles. It is a brief booklet that discusses forgiveness and healing in the context of prayer. It also contrasts the meaning of true forgiveness, healing and peace with their opposites. Many Course students have found this pamphlet to be an invaluable aid in understanding the teachings of the course.

This focuses on the idea that our prayers for others are really our own underlying prayer for ourselves. When we see another as guilty, it is our own guilt that we are transferring to them. This is why we need to forgive them.

W-126.1. A major learning goal this course has set is to reverse your view of giving, so you can receive. 1 If you understood that receiving is God's gift to you, you would not avoid it. 2 Forgiving is the only way to allow you to receive His gifts. 3 If you think that His gifts will lessen when given away, you do not understand what He is. 4 His gifts are unlimited. They will never diminish as long as you do not limit them by your own beliefs.

The song has been recorded numerous times. A cover version by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli appeared on her 1999 album Miracle, and a duet with the latter was included on his compilation album My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection (2008) and he performed it live in 2011 as part of his Concerto: One Night in Central Park tour, which was later released on DVD and CD. The song has also been featured in several television shows and films, including American Idol, the remake of The Grinch and in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
The Psychotherapy Booklet

The twenty-three page Psychotherapy Booklet extends the Course's theoretical principle of healing through forgiveness to the field of psychotherapy. The manual is primarily for professional therapists but will be of interest to anyone who has had an experience with therapy and believes in the healing power of love and forgiveness.

This is a practical guide for creating and sustaining an effective therapeutic alliance. It provides a framework for helping clients explore and understand their feelings, while fostering the trust and respect essential to the success of brief psychotherapy. The book also addresses the important issue of healing misunderstandings between client and therapist.

In this book, psychologist and author Michael Barkham presents the results of over 35 years of research into psychological therapies, including their process and outcomes, examining how treatment changes over time, and highlighting key factors that influence success or failure. He reviews the development of outcome measures, pragmatic trials, and the analysis of large practice-based data sets. He highlights new developments in the field, including recent advances in theory, research on therapeutic ingredients, and changing patterns of therapist effectiveness and training.

A significant revision of the bestselling second edition, now with 60% new material, this is the authoritative clinical reference and course text on a crucial psychotherapy skill. Leading practitioners of major psychotherapies describe step by step how to construct a sound case formulation that guides individualized treatment.
